Allocating energy generation to consumption

The platform UI supports simple manual allocations, like matching 100% of annual consumption with two wind farms. This can be done via Rapid interactive allocation on the Create allocation page under the Allocations section.

Follow the below steps to perform a "Rapid interactive allocation".

Step 1: Select the appropriate allocation period, data granularity, and allocation mode.

  • Please note that this function only supports allocations between demand and supply data with the same granularity.
  • There are two allocation mode options:
    • As produced: Allocate volumes across a given month, proportionally to the production profile. This mode is most commonly used for representing allocations of monthly GOs / REGOs / RECs and allows you to assign slices of generation from selected devices. In this mode, it is possible to have allocations in excess of the consumption curve.
    • As consumed: Allocate volumes of energy up to the level of consumption. Allocations will be taken from a prioritised list of production assets, using the available volumes from the highest priority asset first. In this mode, it is not possible to generate allocations in excess of the consumption curve.

Step 2: Select the appropriate consumers ("demand") and production devices ("supply") and click "Apply".

Step 3: Prepare the allocations.

  • For as-consumed allocations, demand will be automatically matched by the selected devices in the specified order. To edit the device order, simply drag the device to the desired column.
    • You may also specify percentage caps on the supply volumes. These will apply to every selected supply source.

  • For as-produced allocations, you will specify the amount of supply from each device for each consumer. This allows you to allocate certain proportions (by MWh or by percentage) from various devices to one or multiple consumers.

Step 4: Click on "Compute allocation to see results" to perform the allocation.

  • The allocation results across hourly, daily, monthly, and yearly/compliance time granularities will be displayed in a table.
  • For each granularity, you will see data for before ("current") and after ("new") the allocation for the following categories:
    • Total consumption
    • Total allocated volume
      • Allocated volume that matches demand ("matching")
      • Allocated volume in excess of demand ("In excess")
    • Remaining consumption that is unmatched by the allocated supply
  • At the very bottom, you will see a diagram of the supply allocated to the selected consumer(s)

Step 5: Click "Confirm allocation" to finalize the allocation in the platform.

  • After confirming the allocation, you will see a summary of the volume allocated to the selected number of consumers.

To view all your performed allocations, toggle to the "Allocations" tab under the Allocations section. Here you can see manual and automatic (rule-based PPAs) allocations, as well as those uploaded by our Technical Solutions team.

  • Allocation status will display "Interim" until the matching certificates are redeemed by selecting the certificate icon in the right-most column.
  • The back arrow icon will undo the allocation and the down arrow icon will download a CSV of the allocation data

Important Note

Besides rapid interactive allocations in the platform, there are other ways to allocate your energy generation to consumption:

  • Sleeved PPAs: You can set an as-produced sleeved PPA from the Consumers section, when creating a new consumer or by editing an existing consumer (Learn more about adding consumers here).
  • Customised allocation algorithm: Our Technical Solutions (TS) team can help with a custom allocation algorithm tailored to your specific requirements (contractual constraints, prioritisation etc.) offline. Allocations can be based on any criteria across any portfolio size. Please contact your Customer Success Manager for more information.
