Adding production devices, customers and counterparties and consumption meters

This article will help you add your production devices and customers to the Granular Energy platform

Adding Production Devices

To get started in the platform, you can first define some production facilities that you operate or offtake energy/attributes from. Under the Portfolio section, click on "Production devices".

Production Devices (generation assets/power plants) can be added manually (one at a time) or by CSV bulk upload.

Adding production devices manually

To manually add a device, click on the "Add production devices" drop-down, then "Add a production device". Fill in the required information and then click Add Production Device:

Adding production devices through CSV upload

  1. Select the "Production devices" page from the sidebar
  2. Click "Import portfolio definition"
  3. Select the CSV file you want to upload, follow the file requirements as detailed in the platform
  4. Optionally, you can download a CSV file of your entire portfolio or specific metering points to make amendments and re-upload it.

Please refer to the Bulk uploading production devices or consumers via a CSV file article for details on the requirements.

Adding customers and counterparties

You can define customers or counterparties that you have contracts with in the dedicated page. In that context, we do not make a strict distinction between parties that are market counterparties, or clients. Though they can be captured one by one in the UI, you can also load in bulk (csv) a full portfolio of meters with associated customers, to capture your supply contracts (this functionality is, for now, limited to contracts and customers involving a meter).

Adding customers/counterparties manually

On the Customers and counterparties page, click “Add a customer”. Fill in the required information and then click “Add customer”.

Optionally, you can capture a sleeved PPA arrangement with that customer. This will create auto-allocation Rules in the platform. To do so:

  • Select "Add a PPA" and select the correct production device. You may also add a PPA name and validity dates.
  • The "trigger automatic allocations" box will allow allocations to be generated upon issuance or incoming transfer of production certificates.
  • Once added, these can be viewed on the Rules page under the "Allocations" section. Click Next to proceed.

State - start & end dates

The configuration of a consumption metering point can change over time. It can be assigned to different consumers (or none) at different times. It can also have different "tag" values (see below).

The term for a given configuration of a metering point for a particular time period is a "state". The CSV file needs to include all the states for the metering points that it contains. Whenever there is any change to the state, you will require a new line. States' time periods cannot overlap for a particular metering point.

For example, if metering_point_1 is assigned to consumer_1 from 2024-02-01 until 2024-03-10 and then to consumer_2 until 2024-10-01, you would need two rows:

  1. the first from 2024-02-01 to 2024-03-10 and
  2. the second from 2024-03-11 to 2024-10-01

Each row would also need to contain values for all the tags you have configured. And if any of these change value over time, new rows are required.

If you are changing any values for a metering point, it is important that you re-upload rows to represent all states for that metering point. An upload is assumed to contain the entire state history for the metering points that it contains. To help with this, you can download the full state history for the metering points you want to change, update, insert or delete rows as required, and re-upload.

Tags

Consumption metering points can be "tagged" to allow richer ways to organise, filter and aggregate your data. This will you to capture and organise key concepts - such as different products/tariffs, brokers/TPIs, macro-consumers, and more. Talk to your Customer Success Manager or email support@granular-energy.com to configure.

Adding consumption meters

  1. Select the "Consumption meters" page from the sidebar
  2. Click "Import Demand Portfolio" and select the "Select file" option
  3. Select the CSV you want to upload, follow file requirements as detailed in the platform

NOTE: To update an existing metering point, you must upload its entire state history, or else data will be overwritten with your last upload.

Your customers and corresponding metering points will now appear under the "Consumption meters" section.

Please refer to the Bulk uploading production devices or consumers via a CSV file article for details on the requirements.
