Multi-granularity feature is now live

Overview

Granular Energy’s latest update introduces enhanced functionality, enabling you to manage your entire energy portfolio in a single environment, even when your data is described at different levels of time granularity. This update improves the data upload journey, internal data modelling, and allocation process, providing a more efficient user experience across the platform.

Benefits

This update empowers you to manage your entire portfolio in one place, even when your data spans multiple time granularities. Specifically, it means that:

  • You can now manage your annual or monthly allocations alongside your hourly allocations in the same platform.
  • The platform supports the import and visualisation of sub-hourly granularities, such as 30-minute, 15-minute, or 5-minute intervals.
  • You can also now allocate generation with high granularity metering data (e.g. hourly or sub-hourly) to consumers with low granularity metering data (e.g. monthly or annual). This means even highly granular data can be used for consumers with less granular reporting needs.

Impact

With this update, changes have been made to the way data is imported and displayed across the platform.

Data import

  1. API uploads: You can now push data through the API at any granularity you choose. By default, the granularity of intervals in a file upload is inferred from the first records present in this file, but you can also explicitly set the granularity using an optional query parameter. For more details please read the API documentation here.
  2. Platform uploads: You can now upload CSV files with data at any granularity directly through the platform’s interface. For more guidance on how to upload data in the platform, please refer to our detailed guide here.

Data Visualisation

In the Portfolio and Consumer views of the platform, as well as in the end-consumer dashboard (ECD), new time granularity options are available and can be selected based on the following conditions:

  • Supplier-specific settings: Certain time-granularity options (e.g., 5-minute intervals) are not enabled by default in regions like the UK, where half-hourly metering data is standard. If you require additional granularity options, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager.
  • Uploaded data granularity: The granularity options displayed depend on the lowest granularity of the data uploaded for the selected time period. For example, if only hourly data is available for the selected time period, 30 minutes intervals will appear greyed out.

In the Portfolio view, a new filter has also been added to quickly exclude any consumer or generation that doesn’t have hourly or sub-hourly data.
